Don't Tell Me There Isn't Anything on T.V.

With DVR, On Demand, HBO.Go, Netflix, Hulu, and every other way to watch something when and where you feel like it...Why are so many people complaining they can never find anything good on television? (or whatever device we are all using these days).   I've decided to compile a short list of some of the best entertainment ever to hit the small screen for all of you who are in need of good T.V.!

1.   True Detective
(Sunday Nights)
 "Man is the Cruelest Animal!"

HBO has truly raised the bar with this thrilling metaphysical suspense drama!   With only two episodes left my suggestion is to go to On Demand or HBO.go and get on this one!    Matthew McConoughey (Rusty Cole) is a former vice agent for the State Police turned Homicide Detective and possesses more psychological genius than Freud himself!   His insights on philosophy and ability to read people, coupled with his "nothing to lose" attitude, make for a man who is searching for answers, and not only is he determined...he is going to find them.   Partnered with Woody Harrelson (Martin Hart), an imperfect, hypocritical mess, whose character plays the part of "super cop", husband, father, and Christian, while downing drinks, cheating on his wife, and is inflicted by a bit of an anger management problem.    When these two complex characters come together, it is nothing short of magic!   Full of twists and turns, be sure to pay close attention to every single scene!   "True Detective" is a "True Masterpiece"!   #1 on my list, which, if you know me, that is really saying a lot!!!!   (Next season will have a whole new cast and we will sadly, say good-bye to Rust and Marty).

2.   The Walking Dead
(Sunday Nights)
I am somewhat ashamed...

I know, I know...spare me the gore and zombies right?   This is a story of survival.   Its more about ethical issues like the needs of the many outweighing the needs of the few!   Its about "What would you do?".   With a cast of characters you are sure to fall in love with, love to hate, or hate to love...the "world of this horrific story" will not only blow your mind, it will literally drag you into it and make you never want to leave!!!! Based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, (Comic Book really??? I get it...) and brought to a whole new audience on AMC!  With moral dilemmas, intricate story lines, and yes, zombies, you will quickly see past the literally walking dead and begin to discover the rawest hearts and natures of people.    A Darwininstic , "Survival of the Fittest" journey, mixed with the Utilitarianism of Jeremy Bentham in its most descriptive form, this show will not only scare you...it will also make you laugh, cry, and leave you breathless!  Thought provoking, inspiring, and disgusting... you won't be able to wait a whole week to pick up where they left off!   (But you will, because you'll have to!)  11 episodes into Season 4...go back to the beginning...and I promise, you will catch up to the rest of us in no time!

3.   The Following
(Monday Nights)
"And so, we begin." ~ Joe Carroll

Oh...Fox, although, I loathe basic cable when it comes to great television, you have really impressed with me this one!    Starring Kevin Bacon as Ryan Hardy, an FBI agent who is famous for identifying and capturing Serial Killer/English Lit. professor, Joe Carroll early on in his career.   Even from behind bars, Joe Carroll is a hero to the lost, the broken, and the deranged, acquiring a cult-like army of worshipers who live, breathe, and die, to please him.  The Following provides us with a new twist on the more familiar Copy-Cat killer phenomena, and mixes it with the crazies who visit, write letters to, and fall in love with "Death Row" inmates like "The Night Stalker" Richard Ramirez!    At the same time, its creators bring to life a madman with the unexplainable charisma reminiscent of Ted Bundy!  Edgar Allan Poe is heavily high-lighted throughout this series, and anyone from a police officer, a mom, the boy next door, and, even your neighbor, could be a "follower" waiting for their opportunity to strike!

OK, so far, my list has been full of madness and mayhem...and that will continue, although, with less details.  What? I have babies to care for!...

4.   True Blood
(Sunday Nights)

Eric Northman: Vampire Sheriff of Area 5, Dead in Shreveport Louisiana, Owner of Fangtasia, Viking Prince, Vampire

Based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris,of which, I have personally read every one....Bill Compton and Eric Northman (especially Eric), will make you actually WANT to get bitten by a vampire!   Formerly #1 on my list, and forever in my heart, True Blood falls from grace to #4.   Still, highly recommended, as addictive as the book series, and, sadly the upcoming season will be the last for this HBO giant of a Show!   If you haven't seen it go back to the beginning!   Although you will find a season or two somewhat disappointing...you will love every second of it from the best theme song opening to the very last second of the following week's preview!  Trust me.   Set to come back summer 14'...The only one of the first six not airing currently, but wouldn't, rather, COULD not, leave out True Blood!

5.   Bates Motel
(Monday Nights)

Yes. That is the little boy from "August Rush" all grown up!  And, yes, his "mother" was the psychiatrist/girlfriend of Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio in "The Departed"!

While we are all familiar with Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, Bates Motel provides a modern take on the notorious mind of schizophrenic Norman Bates...Bates Motel takes us back to the enigmatic, Oedipus Complex teenage years yet, somehow placing him, his mom, and the infamous motel into present day! (Along with a brother from a different father!   Don't ask me its all a little confusing in a completely sensible way!).  Starting its second season on AMC this coming Monday, March 3rd, and sure to be as psychotically intriguing as its premiere.

6.   Nashville
(Wednesday Nights)

“I can’t believe she said that in front of me. She’s got about 500 miles worth of nerve.”

Did you think I was all psycho all the time? Truth be told, I wasn't expecting to get hooked on this one but with a two week break due to the Olympics, withdrawal is hitting me hard!  Again, network television, blah!... ABC has hit a high note with this country musical drama about making it in the industry!   From Old Country, to New Country, to Hot Gay Cowboy Country, ( to Connecticut Country???).... Currently enjoying its second season, Wednesday nights are literally climbing the charts week after week!!! (I may even have to swap this with 5 because it really is fantastically addicting!

A quick list of "IN CASE YOU MISSED IT"s...
AMC: American Horror Story (Admittedly disappointed in the season 3 finale, there is always next season. And, I'll be watching, Wednesday nights!)
Showtime: Dexter (No new episodes of this, one of the smartest concepts ever green-lighted!)
HBO: Sopranos (If you missed this, I have no words except watch it from beginning to end...twice!)
AMC: Breaking Bad (Another one now in the past, cooking meth never made so much sense!?!)
HBO: Six Feet Under (An all-time great series, to die without ever watching this would be a sin!)
FX: Rescue Me (Just watch this!!!)
Discovery: Deadliest Catch...(Although, crab fishing will never be the same as the "Cornelia Marie" will not be on this season!   RIP Phil...Good Luck boys!)  ~ Tuesday nights
Oh, and don't miss Juan Pablo as The Bachelor!   (I'm still a chick you know!!! ;) Monday Nights
Last one....Light and Fun
ABC: Modern Family...(sitcom/current/in-syndication on Fox as well)  Tuesday Nights
I'm sure there are many left out...but have to stay true to the what's on now...and what comes off the top of my head as favorites!   Watch them or don't.... Just don't tell me there isn't anything on T.V.!!!

And for the love of all that is holy....CATCH UP ON GAME OF THRONES!!!
